Granulator Knife Gap Checklist: Reduce Dust, Fines, and Noise

Granulator Knife Gap Checklist: Reduce Dust, Fines, and Noise — Leader Blades blog

If regrind suddenly turns dusty, noisy, or hot after a blade change, inspect the bed knife, rotor-to-fixed clearance, and mounting seats before assuming the steel grade is wrong. Rapid states that correct spare parts support stable regrind with fewer rejects, less dust and fines, lower energy consumption, and lower noise levels.

Start with the rotor knife and bed knife as one pair

Rapid's RMD announcement says the critical interface is between fixed and rotating knives. That is the same interface to inspect when dust, high amps, rubbing noise, or one-sided wear appears after maintenance.

Field checklist before you order replacement knives

  • Lock out the machine, then inspect both moving and fixed edges for chips or rollover.
  • Measure the gap using the OEM method across the rotor width.
  • Check seat cleanliness, bolt condition, knife projection, and screen damage.
  • Photograph the old knife and hole pattern with a ruler.

When harder steel is not the first answer

PPI's recyclability page confirms post-consumer and post-industrial plastic are both part of mechanical recycling. If the feed changed to pipe, IBC, lump, or tray scrap, compare our HDPE pipe regrind solution and PET thermoform tray guide before asking for maximum hardness.

What to send for a faster quote

Send machine model, rotor and bed-knife dimensions, hole spacing, feed material, current gap method, and the symptom you see. Start from our plastic granulator knives, bed knives, and contact form.
